A Revenge on Reality, coming to the Hollywood Fringe
Consider this the official announcement.
An Important Business Office is returning for the 2026 Hollywood Fringe Festival with a production of one of my older plays; A Revenge on Reality. It’s a show about writing show about writing show about writing—you get it. It was inspired by my time as a theatre major (the first iteration of the show was performed in the University of Kentucky 2015/16 studio season), and it really leans in to the sort of pseudo-intellectual, self-indulgent philosophical musings that can only be achieved by college arts students. But like, in a fun way, ya know?
The two characters, Max and Sam (orginally named Todd and Ben [an intentionally obvious reference to myself {Rob} and my real-life college roommate {Beau}] but renamed in order to make the roles more obviously gender neutral) spend the roughly 45 minute show spiraling through chaotic arguments about art, life, percecption, meaning, and all the dumb shit Max says, as Max attempts to craft a theatrical masterpiece, and Sam tries to just get through a day without their roommate driving them insane. It’s a fast paced piece of absurd nonsense, jam packed with references and allusions, equal parts pretentious and silly.
Actually, come to think of it, maybe once the Fringe production is up and running I’ll do a blog post breaking down all of the different little references sprinkled in there, like an easter egg index.
Oh fuck. I really like the sound of that phrase. “An Easter Egg Index”. Calling it now, that’s gonna end up the title of something I work on eventually.
Anyway, on the off chance I’ve driven enough traffic to this site that you, reader, are an LA based actor interested in taking part, here’s a link to the Backstage listing: https://www.backstage.com/casting/a-revenge-on-reality-3090672/
I’ll try to remember to do more blog post about this show as the process unfolds (I bet my mom would love that [hi mom! {sorry I said fuck earlier}]), in the meantime, uh…
